CONNECTING OUR DOTS UNITED Inc. (CODU) was created to organize activities to assist, support and benefit the Country of Sierra Leone in combating their health crisis, the Ebola Crisis, specifically concentrating on the communities of the Gbo Chiefdom or Province of Sierra Leone, West Africa. A CODU officer went evaluate the critical needs of the cities and villages of Gbo Chiefdom. This was preceded by brief site visits by two other board members to the Gbo Chiefdom and Freetown, the Capital of Sierra Leone. In March 2015 the Ebola Crisis hit Sierra Leone where 10,000 people died and the epidemic threatened the rest of the world. Even the Vice President of the Country was quarantined. The Paramount Chief Gbo Chiefdom was brought to San Francisco, CA and other meetings were held in Washington DC to evaluate how to provide an infrastructure to not only to contain the Ebola virus, but also to provide an infrastructure to increase the basic qualities of life there and minimize disease outbreaks of any kind. Minimal financial support has been provided on a personal basis to support the activities of official and volunteers of the Gbo Chiefdom. Of urgency is the initiation of providing solar powered lighting for the medical clinics. A master plan of activities and collaborations with other organizations is being completed.
During the Ebola outbreak CODU supported and implemented a communication platform that enable Chiefdom authorities to effectively monitore daily reports to the Chiefdom ETFs on new illnesses, arrivals & departures. As a result only two confirmed Ebola cases occured during the outbreak and the virus was never transmitted within the Chiefdom. Lt. Col. David Asfall, Vice President of Connecting Our Dots United (CODU), returned in May 2018, from a 7 day In Country Needs Assessment visit to the Gbo Province in Sierra Leone.
